DVD+R for PS2

Guys,

I have a problem like this:
After I fixed my Ricoh burner MP5125A (i meant upgrade the firmware), I can burn PS2 DVD games using my burner, but the new problem I got, it burns only for specific DVD media, so far I've tested using Laser brand (general purpose DVD) and sometime works, sometime the media need to be bent a bit. I use Nero burning ROM 5.5.9,
If I tried to use Verbatim, it burns sucessfully but doesnt wanna boot in PS2 (SCPH-39002), do you know why???

Do you know any other brand that could work??

So far: metal gear solid (need bent) & DOA2..

What mod chip are you using?

Use Primo DVD or RecordNow Max to burn your PS2 dvd based games....
Nero works for "most" games BUT not all......

Could also be that your PS2 doesn't like the +R format....

Try burning MGS2 with one of the programs above and see if it will boot then, if not, find "someone" (aka me) with MGS2 on DVD-R and talk "very nicely" to them and maybe they will send you a copy to try....

They call it magic 3, but I think its blue chip, it is like blue chip, but its definitely messiah clone....

No, doesnt work using stomp record max but it was using verbatim DVD+R...

I think its related to general purpose or video disc???, dont you think???

Do you know I can buy cheapest DVD+R (general purpose)???
if you could give me the address that will be great...

Thanks a lot

Since I don't use the +R/+RW format, I couldn't tell you where to get them cheap....
TylerDurden does use them, so maybe he can point you in the right direction.......

I know the ones I use are the "General Purpose" discs....
I personally have never seen the "video disc" you mentioned...
I have seen the "authoring" discs.....

Have you also tried using Primo and following the tutorial?
When you burned with RecordNow Max, did you follow the tutorial for it also?

Just trying to get as much info as possible....

Continue using what you are using. PS2s dont play +r/+rw nearly as well.

Not true,

I have been doing testing and if your PS2 is able to read dvd+r then feel free to use it.

I am not done testing but what I have noticed on my ps2 (V5) is that when I used DVD+R it is about the same as when I use DVD-R. The only real difference is that I can burn DVD+R at 2.4x speed.

I have also tried DVD+RW which seems to read easier than anything else I have tried so far (including originals). I chatted with BG about this and he said pretty much the same about DVD-RW, I still have to try that and compare the two.

So in conclusion at this point in time Im leaning towards the DVD+RW since it has been tested and works better in my personal ps2.

Yeah... For some reason, my PS2 reads the DVD-RW smoother and quieter than the DVD-R..... I also still need to get a +R/+RW disc from Tyler and try those also....

The X-Box likes the +R format.......

Alot of PS2's don't.... Some of them will ONLY play the -R's....
But if its a newer version, you shouldn't have any problems....

I have used Fuji and Philips Dvd+r and they both seems to work. I sometimes have to push the reset button a couple of times to get them to work though, but not too often. I have a version 5 playstation 2 and have the blue universal magic chip 3. I think that it is the model that you have also. The media, however, is a little expensive in my opinion. I have tried the TDK 2x DVD-R media and it works great (also quite expensive). No loading problems at all. I also tried the cheap o Kypermedia DVD-R from my local Office Max. Although they also worked great, they will only burn at 1x, which to me is way too long. So in my opinion the DVD-R format is the way to go if your planning to use it for PS2 back-ups since its cheaper and more compatible. But since you only have a DVD+R writer then I would recommend those 2 medias. Expensive but they definately work (assuming of course you have a version 5 or new PS2).

FINALLY !!

Guys,

Thanks alot for your response,

I've made it, all of you are correct, this is the test that I've done...
r

- Don't use verbatim media for video, its expensive here (Australia) and it doesnt work with PS2 version 7 (I hope for all PS2 v7)
- I can use RITEK DVD+R, I've just burnt FIFA 2003, and it worked, and loading the disc is quite fast.
- Use stomp recordnow MAX version 4.10 with latest PXEngine.
as it mentioned earlier by senior member, Hi BG you legend man..
Nero works only for some of them, doesnt work for all games, thats good point huh.., actually I had also experience when clone CD could not burn PS2 CD games sucessfully, and then I use stomp and worked perfectly..
Stomp recordnow MAX version 4.10 is very easy to use, just use wizard "make an exact copy" and it does it all.

Thanks again guys
PS:
-I use PS2 PAL SCPH-39002 (australian region)
-Magic 3 blue chip
-Ricoh DVD burner MP 5125A firmware 1.38 (still RC2/ no region hack)
-DVD+R Ritek and LASER

Cheers...
