Problems selfbooting MSR and others
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting MSR and several others, like Sega GT, NHL 2K2, and more to boot. After the Sega liscense screen, the game resets to the Dremacast screen, then Sega liscense screen, and on and on. It just keeps repeating the boot process. I know this is a known problem, but I can't find a solution for it. I have tried binhacking all the files with "CD001", but that doesn't work either. I know there is a program to solve this, but it only works with the original .cdi file which I don't have. I've wasted quite a few CD's trying this, and I hate hate to waste any more. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks in advance for your help. -Ex |

I had no problem with these games...
Have you binhacked the files using the good LBA value ? You could try to use "internet fixer" or binhack all bin files containing "CD001" with LBA = 0, and then use Bin2Boot. |

Yes, that was the first thing I tried... inetfixer and bin2booot....
No good. Then I tried binhacking all the files with CD001 to 11702.... No good. I've tried not binhacking anything but the 1st_read.bin..... No good. I'm out of ideas. |

???
Somehow, my message got posted twice, and I didn't hit the back button... oh well. Infinity engine, Thanks so much for your response, and for the program. But, my copy of MSR is already self-boot, so I don't know if scrambling it will do any good. I'll try it anyway. What I'm trying to do with it is make the internet work. So, I've used inetfixer and then tried to reburn it. This works with many other games that I have done. ex: Rayman 2, DOA2 LE, Sega Marine Fishing, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi 2, etc. But there are some that won't boot after changing the LBA value. Some of these have internet options like "MSR" and "Sega GT", and some don't. There's some kind of trick about them not working after you change the LBA value, but I don't know what it is. I've read about it and have a program to fix it if you have the cdi file, but I don't have that. ??? |

I see, well if you have a spare cdr try...
I really don't know what else you could do/try... Last edited by Infinity_Engine; 12-10-2002 at 10:58. |

Some games have several references to LBA...
Sometimes, you need to modify manually a value. But I don't think it's the case here... |

I'm willing to try anything, because nothing has worked so far.
Can you explain how to search for other LBA references? I don't doubt that this is the case. |

Well, for example you need to modify 2 hex codes in F355 Challenge (and it's the only game I know like this).
In this case, you had to binhack 1st_read.bin and then look for A6000000 (LBA=0) and change it by your LBA. I don't know how to be sure which code you have to change. But if you change 5C2A to 5C2E, you might have to look for this in the whole 1st_read.bin... |
