This is somewhat hard to tell.
Do you want it the easy way, i.e. insert the dvd make one or two mouse-clicks and the result is a (s)vcd. Then your choice should be DVDx or moviejack (not really a good one, but easy!) Do you want rips of better quality? Tmpgenc, dvd2avi, panasonic encoder and smartripper (only examples though, there is a great variety of tools available) should be on your list. Just try some of the tools to see, which ones are your favourites concerning quality and speed.
