DDRMAX 6th mix not working

I burnt it using CDRWIN, and I did the Gameshark2/Knife Swap trick (My PS2 is not modded), and it didn't boot. It just stayed at the screen saying "Please Insert Game Disc". Is this because I don't have a mod chip, or is it because I need to patch it? Has anyone gotten it to work their unmodded PS2?

Also, is anyone else having problems playing backed up imports/backed up USA PSX games on their unmodded PS2? Thanks alot in advance.
