FF8 on a PS2

Hi, I'm trying to back up a platinum edition of FF8 (PAL), to be used on a PS2 machine. (Fitted with a messiah chip.)

I know ppl who have backed up FF9 and can play that on their PS2, and I myself have a copy of FF VI that works great. So the problem is not with the machine, but with my backing up.

I've succesfully made a .bin file with CDRWIN, and tried both a version with and without ppf patching the iso file. Both just blank out after the PSX logo screen.

Does anyone know what I can try to get the game to work?
I know the cdr media works, I've got tons of other games on them. Not so sure about the burner though, it's an old Teac R-55S drive, but I haven't had any problems with it before.

Any help is appreciated.
