Wink dvdr with region x

Yes finally, I managed to get mgs2 dvdr working.
I use an un modded ps2 with regionx (dongle) and a bakup of ar2
(no dongle) using dave mirra 2. Takes a few swaps but it goes first time every time. yippee

Yeh........hmmmmmm....good one that! You must be so clever! Just think...all that time that we've been messing around with mod chips and then you find a way to play dvdr's with just a dvdrx and no cog method.

Haha!

Could you please elaborate (detail) the boot method? You can see the sceptics are out with their sharp wit.

Easy tiger....No harm meant! Just that if he's not using the cog method then it would be impossible seeing as the machine would think that mgs2dvdr is a standard cd (ie the dvd region x) or if ejecting manually- a dvdvideo.

anyway no harm meant but if proof can be provided i'l crawl back into my shell!

I'm as sceptical as you are. There's something he hasn't told us the will bring this all back down to earth.

it is possible.
he likely knife-swapped the backup AR2 with an original Region X. then there is a single version of the AR2 2.x in which you can press start to get around the hardware check. you can't use codes or anything, so don't bother trying, but it works for dvd-r swapping I believe.
he prolly then knifeswapped to get the DVDR to boot.

however, he won't have a PS2 for long anymore if he keeps doing it this way.
the damage caused to the drive door mechanism by forcing it open several times will sooner or later cause it to fail.

ok sorry haven't replied. been playing mgs2. finnished first mission-part where metal gear gets stolen from ship.

know this is a somewhat detail of how it works. I'm writing this as i am loading msg2

1) load dvd regionx, swap with copy of ar2v2 (no dongle),press start.

2) when ar2v2 loads up (notice no hardware found scrolling @ bottom).
press start.

3) press o on screen which says with/without codes, you'll be taken to a menu.

4) on the menu choose options and press x

5)in options choose reset hardware and press x

6) press x to confirm, it will reset hardware,(just to test i removed regionx dongle and memory card first).

I guess that if you had a cartridge then you wouldn't have to do this all the time.
7) notice it will now say 128 games and 2564 (or something codes) and it'll take you back to the menu
8) on the menu choose action replay codes and press x
9) press eject and then insert original disk with big toc (dmc)
it will know start reading disk
10) find david mirra bmx2 and press x to select and then start to select codes.
11) select with codes and press x
12) confirm with codes by pressing x
13) a message will appear on the screen saying too many codes(or something)
14) notice that the original dvd has stopped spinning!
15) swap dvd with dvdr using whichever method you choose.
I use a thin plastic tool i made. works sweet!
16) choose without codes press x and x to confirm
17) get ready to play!

It is a bit of a process but if it's free who cares!
I noticed with this method less noise from ps2 as apposed to just regionx .

I use a tool I made to swap with. used it for two years know. no problem.

no chip, cheaper-only cost me $50.00 NZD, $25.00 us for regionx
$50.00 for dmc original (buy and sell papers)
action replay 2v2 copied
tool - back of a plastic manilla folder.

please try it and let me know how you get on.

I'll be installing neo 2.2 as soon as I can get the hex (should eliminate the need to tool swap)

Thats basically a long winded cog method. Check out the forums for information regarding the cog method as the way you are doing it is unneccessary. You can do it the same way as the neo2.2 does exept you have to eject the drive yourself.
