It works on my system. I have W2000 (but that's barely relevant) and I've dragged & dropped the 2.5GB file from the DVD-ROM to the hard disk which had 2.8GB available.
I've also brought it to my hard disk via WinZip 8 (compresses to 2.3GB - a totally pointless thing to do!). So: 1 How much disk space do you have available? 2 Is your hard disk FAT or FAT32? |

Solution is not immediately obvious to me given the environment you describe.
Try the Winzip method if you've got the HDD space to spare. It'll tell us whether or not a reading application (as distinct from a system mechanism) will work. I use a Toshiba SD-C2502 DVD ROM. Is there anything that is different about your system and/or its device drivers? |

Boot your system using a boot disk, like the windows startup disk.
Type copy d:\*.* c:\gt3 where d: is your cd drive and c: being the drive you wish to copy the files too. Its a good job for you guys i'm a PM Sim |

Sim, why doesn't it work for the man like it works for me? And why should your suggestion work?

Windows stops the file from being copied as it detects it as being invalid.
Using Windows 2000 to copy it will work because win2000 is designed to support things like that. Using a boot disk to copy will also work because dos does not differentiate between files and file types. I had the problem with gt3.vol and it copy's fine off the boot disk with cdrom support enabled. All leiilou needs now is a spare 8gb! Sim PM + Earning the title! |

My hat's off to you Sim. It's a long time since I used W98 and never had an invalid file type to copy then. So, everyone - upgrade to W2000 otherwise you've got the hassle of making a boot disk that has DVD ROM drivers.

The problem with Windows 2000 is finding drivers for all your devices
and also games playing on your PC. Apart from that it is the most stable O/S about. So it depends what U are using your system for. Sim PM |

Hi,
You could also get round it by making your System Dual boot, with Win2k and Windows ME, that way you can play all your games, but if need be use Win2k for other applications... A fair size HD would be needed but the cost of PC Hardware at the mo is so cheap. Dal |
