DVD Writers...Which one?

I have a few questions about DVD writers:

1 What is the difference between DVD-R and DVD-RAM?
2 What format is better, DVD General or DVD Authoring?
3 What DVD writers do you recommend?
4 Are they able to record other DVD disks, ie PS2 DVD's and ones that you buy from stores?

Hi, i got the pioneer dvr-A03, Havent had it but for about 3 weeks but so far it's been worth the money( $799.00) as i have backups of several PS2 dvd games as well as movie's. Beats the hell out of the time consuming ripping process. This was alot of money to put out for a drive but it will pay for itself eventually lol and yes i would recomend it to others. Good luck.
