I use and recommend:

LiteOn 24102B
CloneCD 3.x
Nero 5.x

And also a reader that DOESN´T read the ATIP of the disc (for those nasty Securom 2 games)

CloneCD: Very fast for backing up VCD discs. Can copy protected PSX discs IF your cd-rom/writer is compatible.

Nero: OK for 'cracked' PSX games. ALso good for PC data discs and music.

Disc Juggler: Good for Dreamcast, although like CLoneCD needs specific hardware support for this (you need V3.x at least).

The latest Yamaha writers come highly recommended. ALso, if funds are limited you can get a Mitsumi 4x writer for peanuts. There's also an 8x model but I haven't seen a review of it. Why this model? Well it does a "FULL RAW READ/WRITE with SUB-CHANNEL DATA." This enables the writer to make 100% copies of most discs.
