My ps2 dies alot!

Ok im kinda new to the whole mod chip deal. I bought the usb mod for a starter and it worked good, but had some timeing issues. Then i got a neo 2.2 pro and i fried my board, lucky me i have friends in high places and i got a new one for little $ and now i have a solderless mod chip and it works great on all my backups that arent dvd rips. Ok now to my 2 questions. Do the solderless chips tend to fry ps2 alot or are they fairly safe? And where can i EXACTLY get some dang patches for my dvd rips so i can use my chip???

they won't damage the ps2, since they're nothing but "brainless" (as in, no actual modchip) tray openers.
