Question Is it possible to backup GS2 v2.01cd?

Is it possible to backup GS2 v2.01cd ?
If so, will it work and how the hell do you go about it?

I'm doing it for my m8 (neo2.2).
I've tried clonecd 3.0.5.1 with the protection settings and also cdrwin 4.0A on my plextor 8432 (which has yet to make a coaster).

They can't read the data sectors. The buffers don't fill up on clonecd like they usually do. I've backed up ps2 games like ico and half-life ok. Windows only sees about 25 megs of it. Clonecd analyzes it fine, 1 track, mode 2, 700 megs...etc

Any help appreciated.

This one was answered last week but here it is again.
Neither gameshark or ar discs can be copied buy any program.
The reason being is that the data on the orginal discs is pressed on and not burned on in the first place so it's impossible for your cdr to read the data on the discs.

Hope this helps.

it is possible..

its possible because i got an image from the internet,, i don't know well how its done... but i guess its done with isobuster just select to extract the data as an iso an it will do it, and when it says thata a sector can't be read just select to ignore always, an let it do the extraction, it will take long.. but you will end with a working copy (note that it will not be bootable by itself, like the original, thats impossible to do) you will need either a no swap chip or a swap chip with a boot disc like dvd region x, or just do the cog/knife trick with a boot disc. and also you need a dongle to use it (the ar2 v2.1 can be used without a dongle) i hope that answers your question i know a little more but i don't remember well all...
anyway if you got more questions just put your mail to contact you ok?

It is possible to backup GS with clone CD but you need a no swap chip to able to use it. It will NOT work if you have a swap method. I've tested this.

Altually my friend & I had a dispute on this so we tested it & I was correct. On a no swap mod chip it worked & swap necessary chip it did not. It makes sense because you need the original GS to provide the original code that the PS2 checks. That is why there is a need to swap. After all you can't use a backup copy to swap & boot another backup copy. The reason it works on a no swap system is because the chip will provide the code rather than other systems that work by hidding the eject & tricking the PS2 into thinking that no CD has been swapped & it's still the original CD that is inside.

If you have a PSX w/a no swap chip & a PS2 w/a must swap chip you can test this theory. If you got the Gameshark 2 it comes w/2 CDs, a PSX/PS1 CD & a PS2. Backup your PSX/PS1 CD using clone CD or whatever. Then put it in your no swap chipped PSX/PS1 & it will work but then put it in a MUST swap chipped PSX/PS1 or your PS2 & it won't work! But if you can, try it in a no swap PS2 chipped system & it will work.

Actually you can do it with a swap mod, or cog/knife swap trick, if you have an original boot disc like dvd region x..(or whatever boot disc you use, but original) you will need to swap 1 more time but it works.. i have tested it.. with a ripped version of an ar2 v2.1 and with a complete backup of gs 1.9..
you are right in that if you do not have an original boot disc in first place do you cannot boot a backup. unless you have again a no swap chip..

Maybe i did not explained myself well... in the previous post.

Yes I know that, basically you need an original to supply the code to boot any backup unless you have a chip that'll supply the code like the NEO4 which is unavailable as far as I know but the Union will be out soon & that uses the same code from the NEO

That was the point being made , you can not copy game shark or ar2 discs so that they work on there own from the originals.
Downloading an image is not the same as copying an original.
Like wise if you have to buy dvd region x to make a down loaded image work why not buy the original thing in the first place?
Or if you need the original to make the incomplete copy work what's the point in copying it in the first place?
Aren't you just wasteing discs?

Argo is ****-on. If you needed GS2/1.9, I could understand the question.

Where I disagree with Argo is on copying GS2/AR2. CloneCD can do it and so can CDRWin.

The problems faced by Raziel19 are likely to be a crap old version of CloneCD or it might be a cracked version; probably the former.

Cheers all.

I bought the latest version of ar2 v2 in January of this year.
Since my son was using it i thought i'd make a backup copy and keep the original safe.
I tried clone cd , cdr win , the blindwrite suite etc all to no avail.
This was on two different writers.
Memorex 12/10/32 burnproof and LG 8083b.
Whilst some of the copying produced an image of sorts none of the resulting copies would boot up on there own like the original.
Annoyed with this i then spent two weeks emailing different people who know a lot more about this than me and to a man i was told that you could not produce a self booting replica of an ar2 disc because the data had been pressed on to the cd and not burned.
Is this true or not?
I thought the original question was in wanting to do just that,ie
to make a self booting perfect replica of the original disc so as not to have to use the original at all.
That might be because that's what i wanted to do though.
It's all good stuff this though and we learn a bit more every day.
Charlie have you looked at the guy with the possible faulty Messiah/ or laser not reading certain discs?
What do you think?

Gameshark 2 startup difficulty

I bought mine & the reason I made a backup copy of it is the whole reason people make backup copys, because if it gets messed up I have my backup copy of my Gameshark 2 that will work once I get a no swap chip on my own PS2. That is why I suggest to those that are planning on purchasing a no-swap mod-chip in the future make a backup of their GS/AR. I & 2 of my good friends have Gameshark 2s that we paid $40.00 US for at gamestop. For some reason in all 3 of our consoles the Gameshark2 doesn't seem to read on the 1st try & the CDs are new! Sometimes we need to put the GS in 3 different times before it will start up rather then going to the "This is not a PS2 format disc" therefore I imagine that if the CD was to get scratched it would be even worse off!

Has anyone else had this happen to them?
