am i right in thinking i cant play dvdr's on a uk v5 ps2 with a neo 2.2 and gameshark v2 1.99b

Sadly you are wrong. Gameshark is a US bootable.

There is no way that I know of playing a DVD-R on v5 PAL with NEO2.2. Sorry.
