PS2 Laser

I have a problem with my laser in my PS2, well it was doing the clicking skip noise on almost all my dvds and PS2 games but would usually get around to playing games after about 4 or so clicks, dvd's were hopeless. So i opened it to clean out dust in there because there was alot and i mean alot. So i did that and nope still skipping, No i decided to go into surgery with it and begain examing the way the laser worked and what was making the click noise, from what i could see i think that the laser was hitting the CD and the trying to read it again and repeating. So cut in farther and was just kinda looking at the laser and the mechanics of it, decided not to mess with it and put it back together. Now nothing works it doesn't even fully spin the cd and the red light from the laser only flashes for like .000001 of a second. I found a site that sells the lasers for like 140 or something, but if anyone can help me out here that would be great, ohhhh yeah and i am glad i found this forum, nice posts you guys have here.
