origa chip question

when the chip is fitted will it play ps2 originals with out using ar2 or dvdx cause at the moment im haveing someone fit it and they are having trouble
they fitted it last night but couldnt get a original ps2 game to work or any game or even for the normal sony menu screen to come up so do u need to use ar2 or dvdx all the time or did they just instal it wrong

definately bad install, my bet is one of the tiny A1-A9 connections is shorted.
originals should still boot the same way as before the chip.
