Is a switch to PS1 ->PS2 justified?

I have PS1 and after listening to all about PS2 from last 6 months , I am tempted to buy one. I have played a couple of games and liked its performance. Is the switch to Ps1--> Ps2 justified? What are the advantages? Will the game truly harnessing the power of Ps2 come up> If yes, when? Or should I wait for X-box, Gamecube? Also, what's the color of ORIGINAL PS2 Cd's and DVD's?

Original PS2 CD's - Silver
Original PS2 Dvd's - Blue
Although the games at the moment aren't up to much, the playstation 2 is a good buy. For a start you get a DVD player which for £20 can be made multi region using Region-X. All your old Ps1 games will work on it so you will have something good to play on until some of the better titles are released. If you are a final fantasy fan FFX is due out around November on PAL this will put the PS2 to the test as you can expect lots of FMV's and quality gameplay from Square. There are already some fantastic games on the PS2 like gran turismo 3, Tekken tag, etc. Plans for expansion on the PS2 such as broadband gaming are being developed. If you wait for the X-Box and Gamecube you will also have to wait for chips to be developed and copy methods and patches to be released, with PS2 the Neo 4 is near release date and game copying guides and patches are easily and readily available. With the X-Box look at some of the games microsoft have brought out for the PC all tosh. The x-box looks like it is going to be a glorified games PC. You might as well just stick to using a PC and have done with it.

Amos, SimonBradley has put it very well - mostly. If you want to preserve your investment in PS1 games (with better graphics rendering), then PS2 is a good way to go. It is coming down in price and perhaps Sony is the only company that can take Microsoft on in the long term.

But make no mistake; XBox will take a large market chunk. I foresee PS2 gamers having both boxes and some genius will, possibly, find a way of online gaming between different boxes for the same game. The XBox is, so far as I have been able to ascertain, based on an Intel Pentium chip and games have been developed on specified PC configurations under Windows 2000.

I'm hoping that making backups in a PC environment will be easier than for PS2; also this damn cartel that prevents US games from playing in Europe etc OUGHT to be defeated if it's PC based - although those evil b*st*rds who carve up the market like this might have modified the final product (XBox) in some way as per PS2. Yet to find out.

So those who invested in PS2 will look at XBox with interest; thjose who still have the choice, also have the dilemma. Games will abound for XBox at release although Gems like GT3 don't come to mind here.

So, I'd rather not advise you which to buy - just provide some thinking material to help your own decision process.

Lety us know what you decide.

Hi,

I have no intension of buying an X-box, i must have 8 consoles at home starting from an Atari 2600 to my PS2 and im just not that interested in the X-Box, for a start its made by Microsoft and we all know they make ropey Operating Systems, i dont have any confidence in the system at all. Ild proberly have a gamecube then a X-Box.

At the of the day its your decision, but i would go for a PS2 they really are something special, and there are some great games coming out of the next 6 months, so keep an eye out.

goodluck

Cheers

Dal
