Read error while trying to CloneCD a couple of games
Hi there!
I've successfully made CloneCD images of most of PS2 CD games I own. However I was trying to backup MOTO GP and TEST DRIVE OFF ROAD. Both report a read error in different sectors... I've tried several reading speeds and a couple of readers (one is the Plextor CD burner itself) but get the same results at 1x and 12x. CDs do not appear to be scratched at all... Do you know if there's any new protection scheme CloneCD would not read? Is there any workaround to this? Thanks! |

On PS2 games, there is nothing that a licensed or demo version (in period) of CloneCD v3.x would refuse to copy. PS2 games do not have bad sectors.
To check if it's your media, go to ####://www.CDR-INFO.com and download an application called CDCheck. Apply your games to CDCheck and if there's a read error it will be reported. Otherwise first para applies. |

Charlie offered good advise, but wanted to add that I made a semi-successful copy of Moto GP last night. The FMV intro skips like crazy, but the game plays fine. This was reading/burning at 8x. I'm going to try again at a lower burn to fix the FMV. Don't know anything about Test Drive tho. good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys,
So if I've understood this well enough, if CDCHeck returns a read error, then it means the original CD has a problem, right? If so then, how can I fix it? I'm pretty sure that if I put the game CD on the PS2, it will run fine though!

CDCheck will tell you which file/s contain the read error. If it's a sound file, you could try IGNORE read error and hope it's not the end of the world at play time. |

It's definetly something physically related and not a protection as I thought...
WHen I tried Off Road in the PS2, intros were jerky, movies and sound were skipping and finally CD hung up the PS2... So it's a matter of scratches, phew!

It's definitely a problem with the original you are copying from, I have backups of both games that work perfect. Try cleaning the disc like Charlie stated if that dont help you may want to copy from a different original.

Are you using a mod chip to play your backups? Ive been making coasters using different methods to try and get around the protection. Any ideas? I hate to have my gta3 get scratched up, its getting hard to find!
