Help needed with the new 24 speed plex.......

It is time for a new writer and in the forfront of my thoughts is the NEW 24 speed PLEXTOR but i have read on some forums that plex have been sneaky devils and put something into the firmware to prevent you making PSX backups is this true....? and also you can get round this by using an earlier firmware but where do you get this from and how do you install it.Any help would be appreciated dudes and dudesses......
