Need help for Playing Backups on PS2 (No chip)

First off, my PS2 has a serial number that ####ts with u3... does this count as a version 4 PS2? (has 8 screws)

Next, will I be able to use the cog/knife swap trick on it with the current Gameshark2 for US? (hasn't bought a GS2 yet.... boy my luck sucks)

I'm pretty sure the version 4 PS2 is the only one that has 8 screws. The earlier versions have 6 screws.
