I think I'm almost there
Ok here's the deal, I have been reading about backing up playstation games for a few weeks. I just got my mod cartridge today so I have been working on this for about 8 hours now. The CD is burning fine, but it won't play. I put an origional game in, turn it on and it boots up to the Game Hunter screen then I take the origional out and put the copy in, a black screen with the word start in the middle comes up and thats it nothing else happens. Once the game started but it was jerky and when it got to the loading screen it stopped. Here is a list of the equipment I'm using;
Game Hunter CD Version MOD Cartridge SCPH - 1001 Nero 5.0 Iomega Zip CD 650 Imation & Memorex CD-Rs I am reading the disk at 1x and burning at 2x (Nero does not give me the option to burn at 1x) Thanks in advance for any help I get. |

Well i can see a few problems but there is always a solution!
1, you would be better off using an internal mod instead of an external one, but you should still be able to get working backups so dont worry about this at the moment. 2, your PSX is the original so it will probably need the laser calibrating to get the best performance out of it. 3, Nero is not the best backup software to use for PSX backups. 4, Iomega burners are Phillips based machines and constantly give trouble when backing up PSX disc's. 5, The media you are using is not the best, but again you should still be able to get a working backup! SO HERE'S YOUR SOLUTION! Use Cdrwin to create a bin file and patch it as usual. Get a copy of Fireburner. Run it and select "visual cue burner" Drag the cue file you made with Cdrwin into the pane. Right click and select "burn/test burn" Select TAO (not DAO - this is important). Burn your first PSX backup. Keep your read and write speeds slow at first untill things are going smoothly and then experiment with faster settings. This solution should be enough to get you on the right track with your burner but you may want to choose a more reliable media such as TDK or Verbatum. See how you get on and if you experiance problems with FMV skipping and choppy audio then look at calibrating the laser.

Ok, I have the demos of CDrwin and Fireburner. I think I picked the right settings for CDrwin but could you tell me which ones you would use so I can be sure I have the right ones, also I don't know where to get patches or how to use them. Could you give me the rundown? Thanks again.

The CDRWin read settings are all default but make sure that the RAW box is #####ed and keep the speed slow.
Patches, well the best place is www.megagames.com most of which you will need the PPF-O-Matic patch engine but there a also instructions on how to use it.
