You can play back-ups with out a mod chip if its one of the earliest models of PSX that lets u do the swap trick.
By using a pen lid or spring to hold down the lid button that lets the PSX know that the door is open. Start the system up with an original game in the drive with the lid button held down and the lid open. When the disk stops spinning replace it with the Import/copy, try and do this be4 the drive starts to spin again. The game should then boot-up ok. Note: the drive door will have to be left open at all times so u can swap the disks. If your PSX cannot do this I know of no other way. Hope I helped |

The 1st PSX i had was the model (1000 something)that came out first, as I bought it on the day of the UK launch.
I could play imports and back-ups on it with no mods inside or out, it was completely standard using the swap trick. On the 2nd PSX (its a 7502) I bought I couldn't do the swap trick so I bought a plug in mod. Then eventually got an internal mod fitted as the external wouldn't play a selected number of games like Knockout Kings and a few others. Hope I cleared that up. |
