Can Final Fantasy IX North American version be thoroughly copied?

Can Final Fantasy 9 be copied all the way through? I'm asking this because Chrono Cross's 1st disc could be copied, as well as its second, but they wouldn't switch discs right, because it didn't ask to save before entering the next disc. I've copied the first disc of ff9, but i don't want to make the same mistake as i did with chrono cross. Does it ask you to save before entering the next disc?
