PSX backups and Creative CD-RW 4224E

First, sorry for bad english...
I have a CD-RW model 4224E (Creative Labs), and try to make PSX backups with that. To make this, I used CloneCD, CDRWin, PSXCopy 2000, and the copies don't work in the PSX console (PS One, with Mod-chip). I make, for example, a image file of TEKKEN 3 and Castlevania and execute the games using the emulator VGS+Daemon, and them working perfectly!!! But, the backup cd's donīt work... :-( I make copies using CD-CD (on the fly), and Image-CD, but I lose my time... nothing work. My CD-RW donīt support the PSX disk format? Is that? And now, what I have to do???

Lola,

I have the exact same problem. I have tried every burning software known to man and a few more after that. My copied games also work on the vgs. I have thought hard on replacing my drive with one that is clone cd compatible. But after reading Hazbo's post I will try that first. Thank you Hazbo for the help. It is cheaper to buy cd-r then a whole new drive.

OK Lola, you need to download the boot disk for the PSONE. email me and I'll send you the URL.
The boot disk starts up the PSONE to a screen where you can change settings and then you take this out and put your game disk in and continue to boot the game. I have found this to be 100% working

This is a known problem with this drive girls and boys, the solution is to change the firmware in the Writer. Get the firmware for a JVC XR-W2080, and load it over the Creative Labs rubbish.
This also works for the Creative Labs 2024E.

Earthworm,
Thanks for the idea. I downloaded the w-2080 firmware from jvc's site. I started the upgrade to this firmware but it hangs up (does not freeze computer just the software hangs). Any suggestions on how to force the upgrade to jvc's firmware would be appreciated.

Thank You

Am not sure why you are having this problem, normally the process just goes straight through in about 2 minutes, then there's a reboot, then you have a JVC writer that can copy anything.
Please post details on the files you got from the JVC site, in case they have changed since I did this, include filenames, date stamps and any version numbers you can get.
If they are different I will e-mail or post somewhere the files I have used, so you can try them.

The file was a zip file named 2080_206a. Inside the zip file were these files:

1. Tez.exe 497kb March 10,1999
2. Tez206a.hex 804kb February 11,1999
3. Tem.asc 1.2mb January 30,2001
4. Tmp.bin 281kb January 30,2001
5. Readme.txt 1.20kb May 24,2000

Any more information you need just let me know. Thanks for all your help. I most likely will find a cd writer compatible with clone cd and sell this thing if this doesn't work. Circuit city has a sony 140e rw that reads subchannel data for $129 and is fully compatible with clone cd as far as I can tell.

Thank you
Larry

try this instead, download these two files :-

####://members.xoom.com/stealth_no1/flash.exe ####://members.xoom.com/stealth_no1/tez206a.hex

Then follow these instructions very carefully :

Run flash.exe. A window opens with a list of the different
drives on your computer, select the 4224E and push the
"update" button. The firmware should then be upgraded to JVC,
which will take a few minutes. After it is finished, it will ask if you
want to restart your computer. Answer "no." Then exit out of the program and restart your computer manually.

IMPORTANT do not attempt to burn any existing .BIN images (read from the Creative Labs Writer), create new .BIN's after upgrading the firmware.

Let me know if it works....

Respect to STeALtH for the files.

Thanks for all your help Earthwormjim but it did not work. I downloaded both files and started flash.exe. I clicked on update. I then clicked on the hex file and clicked to start the upgrade. It shows part of the cdrw update window but the computer freezes every time. I tried with a clean boot(only systray and explorer running) but still did same thing.

Thank You
Larry

Igot2p, unlucky dude ! Your the only 2nd person I've heard of not able to get this to work (lots have). I guess it's the Sony for you after all...at least it will be a way better writer than Creative ever will be.
If anyone else tries this, please post a reply letting us know how it went.

Once again thanks for all the help earthwormjim. Just got this weeks ads and the sony 140e is down to $99 after rebate. Thats less then what I paid for this creative junk. Will the sony be able to get around most copy protections?

Thank You
larry
