Backing up PS2 Fifa 2001

I`m writing using my HP writer 8200i and clone Cd or CDRW I have a USB MOD and a AR2 Cart i installed the MOD which works fine for Ps1 backups but how do i get ps2 backups to work i did as it says load the CD1 of the Action replay disk then ####t game?with and then without codes.and I have used Clone Cd and Cdrw both without any success i`ve only tried fifa2001 as this is the only game i have and tried the Patch from PSX backupworld EA swap fix neo compat with the PPF patcher and it patched OK but would then not run in PS2 would be grateful if anyone has any ideas am i wasting CDs? on this one or am i doing something wrong? Do i need to patch or not?
