Custom editing DC Games

I am wondering if anyone knows how to burn DC games if you have all of the files from a cd, but you don't want to work with images.

For example, i have a backup of marvel vs capcom 2 that works perfectly fine... and i extracted all of the music and changed it into new music (the char select music is REALLY ANNOYING)... but I do not know how to reburn the game so that it works.

So, what i need is either a cd image editor that will allow me to create an image of my original marvel vs capcom 2 cd, and then allow me to change files that are in the image, and then burn the image. I know there are programs that let you EXTRACT files from images, but i want to be able to PUT files INTO an image. Basically, the files have the exact same filename... they are just different versions of the file.

Basically, what i need is a cd image editor that will allow me to add files to a current image... or just instructions on how to burn a DC cd that will be readable by the dc given that I have all of the files off of the cd on my computer. It doesn't even have to be self boot.

I hope everyone understands this. If you think you can help me, or if i can claify better for you, please email me at mrealms**********com with the subject "Dreamcast" or something very simple that will not get filtered by their junk mail filter.

Thanks!

Follow Echelon's selfboot tutorial. I know you don't care about selfbooting your games, but it's really easy.
http://www.megagames.com/dc/dc_utils.shtml

1) burn your music (CDDA)
2) make an ip.bin
3) binhack your ip.bin / 1st_read.bin
4) make a 9660 image
5) burn it

Well, follow Echelon's tutorial.

Okay, i followed the instructions exactly in the Echelon tutorial and the game didn't boot. It didn't selfboot, nor did it boot with a boot disc. Does this have anything to do with the Dummy file? I didn't do anything with the dummy file, i just copied it from the other version. What is a dummy file (besides just wasted data)? Are they even required on the cd to boot? What would happen if it were left off of the cd?

There didn't seem like there was any reason for the disc not to boot... every step along the way was completely successful. Does anyone have any ideas about what happened?

No dummy file is needed : it's just an empty file that's created to put the real data on the extern part of your CD (the place where your CD spins the fastest) so that it's read more quickly. But it's not needed... It just boosts loading times (sometimes).

Try to look for all files containing "CD001" : you have to BinHack these files + 1st_read.bin.

I just checked, and the cd does not contain any "CD###" files on it at all. The closest thing is a file called "2_DP.bin"... but that may just be game data. I can go through the whole process again... maybe there was just a fluke somewhere or something. It's very annoying to keep wasting cds though. :)

Don't look for a file called "CD001". Looj for any file CONTAINING string "CD001". You can do it with windows explorer.

You'll surely find 1st_read.bin, 2_dp.bin, maigo.bin and maybe sg_dpldr.bin (these are bin files for internet, I think, and you need to binhack some of them). To know the ones you need to patch, open 1st_read.bin with an Hex editor, look for "CD001", note the number before this, and look for the same number in the other files. If you find it, patch these files.

For example, you'll find "5C2E0000 01000000" + CD001 in 1st_read.bin. The number you need to find is 5C2E0000.

Okay, so I went through and searched the Marvel vs capcom 2 cd for "CD001" and the only files that contained that string were the files that you listed for me. (1st_read.bin, 2_dp.bin, maigo.bin, and sg_dpldr.bin). When I went to hex-edit the files, none of the files had the same hex before the "CD001" string.

Would it hurt if i just binhacked the files anyway?

So, do you know of anything else that I can do here? I'm very new to the Dreamcast system, and i'm sorry that i am so annoying about everything. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Yes, I think you can try to binhack all these files.

I thought at least 2_dp.bin had the same number as 1st_read.bin. This number is the LBA value and should be the same in both files (before binhacking 1st_read.bin, of course).

I tried to bin hack all 4 of the files, and it definitely didn't work. So... i guess i just can't do this huh? :)

Thank you for all of your help though.

Mmmm...
If the musics were CDDA in your release, you should be able to put your own musics. If they were sound files, you can't just put some CDDA, it won't work, but you should be able to change these sound files by your own if you know the format...

Well... i didn't even edit anything yet. All i did was try to make an exact copy of the game using the Echelon method that you told me about and it didn't work. The music to the game is in .bin files, not cdda... but again, i didn't do ANYTHING to the data of the cd... just tried to copy it and make it boot. It never booted for some reason. Really... i shouldn't have had to binhack any files since the backup was already selfboot...

...
If you only want to make a copy of a already selfboot game, just use DiscJuggler : you don't need to do anything but to insert your CDs and click on some buttons...

Yeah... i understand that i can do that to make a straight copy. But... i want to basically change maybe 10 .bin files that are in the original and i don't know how to do something like "copy, with extra options" or something that allows me to add files to a cd. Basically, i want to copy the cd, but i want to overwrite the music files with music files of my own... and i just don't know how to get it burned and booting. :) Sorry if i sound confusing... :)

I see what you want to do, but are you sure the sounds you want to replace are correct ? I mean, I don't know how ".bin" music files are coded. They aren't wav, mp3, adx or any other format I know...

Well... i got some program off of console backupworld that allows you to convert bin-> wav and vice versa... so i'm just working with that. I'm not really too worried about the music since the system to burn the game won't work for me. It's actually really annoying since there is no reason it shouldn't work.
