My final cry for help (please read/help)
I have a Ricoh MP7060A CDRW drive, I use Imation CDR's.
I have been able to back up a few of my games Driver 2, Spiderman, Resident Evil, Smackdown 2, and a few others. I tried backing up other games and I have no luck. I have a Pentium Celeron 366, 128megs of ram, Windows ME, and I use CDRWIN, Nero 5.0, CloneCD, Discjuggler. All I have are coasters. I have tried every trick, hint, tip, etc... that everyone has posted on this board. I am about to just give up and lock my PSX games in a safe (when I'm not playing them) so they won't get messed up. Someone please tell me if it's user error or my Burner :-( I tried dumping disk to image then burning, tried the patch thing...I have tried everything in big poppa's post and other posts. I'm about to loose my mind (up in here, up in here--lol) Seriously someone please helpppppppppppppppppp |

Yeah, try a different brand of cd media, if you have followed all the correct instuctions it surely must be the media, although I have been able to copy psx on cheap discs, they dont work as well as the good ones, try something like Sony CDQ-74CNP, they're pretty good |

Copy your games to your hard drive then burn from the hard drive to your burner, do not burn "on the fly" with games. Also if possible never read, write or burn a game over 'one speed'. Nero has a default of 2 speed burn but I always let it do a simulation before the burn.
cdrwin has read by 'one' and burn by 'one', when you use cdrwin select the third box in and select the cue sheet option, where it asks where to save, save to your hard drive and save it as a .BIN file, eg NHL2000.BIN(yes write it in uppercase), and remember select read by one and write by one, Two files will be written to your hard drive in the folder you selected for the .BIN file, one of these will be a cue file. Once that is done then select the first box of cdrwin and it will ask for the cue sheet to load, go to the folder where you put your .BIN file and it will automatically accept the cue file. Burn away at one speed |

Does this help....
I was talking to a friend of mine in London and he said that I have one of the very first Playstations SCPH-1001. He suggested getting a newer one as my laser is probably worn out or something. Should I get a New PSX? Freddy: I have tried the make image file to HD then burn to CD, but haven't done the 1x read 1x write. I will try that thanks |

Your machine is sensitive to what type of disc you use, the older machines will not play every type/make of disc that is on the market. I have found the old machines seem to prefer the gold type disc, I put a mod chip in a machine the same as yours yesterday and it would only read games copied with Nero(cdrwin & Clone CD failed), I live in Australia so I am not sure what type of discs you can get.
One of the problems with your machine is the power source is located directly under the laser and the heat from this will effect your machine. 1) try different discs 2)try your copies on some one elses machine 3)If you buy a new machine only the Japanese PS2 can be mod chiped and the PS1 needs games to be patched to country origin |

I'm in the US. Everyone I know have this version PSX. I will try the Gold CD's first if that doesn't work then I will try buying a new PSX from a place where I can take it back if it's not successful.
Also not that I am using the external mod/game enhancer not the wire one. |

Hi, just a suggestion...
have you tried a copy that someone else has made on their PC?? If this works, then maybe.. just maybe your burner may not be able to copy PSX games! ![]() If it works, try copying that game with your burner using the CD-COPY option on Nero, then see if that works!!! Good Luck! ![]() If you get really stuck, mail me!!

Try turning your PSX upside down, this will bring the laser closer to the CDR. I have chipped allot of PSX 1001's, and this trick seems to work well. I have used what ever CDR is on sale and the PSX read's. I have best luck with Maxell or PNY Brand.

Well, i dont own a PSX anymore, but i remember, after loads of playing of the copied games, my FMV was skipping like mad, and cames would not load, especially after the machine was on for a while. So, after playing my PSX upside sown for ages, i decided to find a solution to this problem. Well, i stripped the Lazer unit apart, and saw that the actual lens was riding on a sled, which was on a metal track. On closer inspection, the metal track was worn down... so i got a floppy disk, and ripped the shutter off it, and cut it up.. so i was left with a thin strip of metal, which i then used super glue to glue to the track, thus hiring the sled and the lazer closer to the disk. A small bit of grease (the electrical white stuff) on the new track and hey presto! FMV like never b4! If you want more details on this, email me at [email protected] See ya! (hop this helps!)

It is possible to get the black bottom cdr's from the computer shows in your area. They're pricey but worth the cost. I have only had one failure thus far. |

Put the WIRE MOD CHIP IN, the external enhanser will be your problem. Check out ####://www.ozchips.com.au and go to the "mod piccies" link in the left toolbar for wiring it in

This weekend I took a backup that a friend made for me off his burner, I copied it using Nero 5.0. Someone suggested that I try opening the other CD's I made to see if any files were there, well I didn't see any. But when I made a backup of a friend's working backup (works fine on my PSX) I wouldn't play but when I opened it with explorer on my PC I saw all the files needed. I even tried it on my brother's 7001 version PSX and it still didn't work. It can't all be my burner or PSX. Must be the Brand of CDR's I'm using or the External Mod? Also I noticed that Ricoh has a firmware upgrade for the 7040A burner I have, should I try updating the firmware?
As far as the internal mods go, I'm not that good with stuff like that so I'm sure I would mess up my PSX. Is there a place where you can send your PSX off and they do it for you? Thanks, Venom |
