Would I be right in saying that PSP can play backup games if the PSP has been enhanced ?? its just I wouldnt want to lose any game because they are expensive, what all gear is required for this type of thing ?
does it need chipped ? are there any websites selling or any good articles you recommend ? Im in the UK

You can but it's very dependant on your firmware version. I picked my psp up yesterday and it is at firmware version 1.52. Currently all the loader programs that support booting UMDs backed up onto memory stick and homebrew applications only run on f/w 1.50 and below. I guess we'll have to wait.
This is also the reason why sony are trying to get everyone to update to f/w 2.00!! Why they have to be so wierd about homebrew apllications is beyond me!

ottoman is right. If you have higher than 1.5. I recommended you upgrade to 2.0 to get the browser. All psp on store shelf is 1.52 or higher. You best chance getting 1.5 would be ebay.

There is a piece of software being developed for the PSP that temporarily makes the PSP think the firmware is 1.00 or 1.5. This currently works on 1.5x and even 2.0 but is in early alpha stage and won't be released for a while. Check it out HERE!!!!

No. anything above firmware 1.5 (i.e 1.5x or 2.x) won't run homebrew stuff yet. This is something to do with sony encrypting the firmware. The way ahead with this is to be able to either temporarily or permanently downgrade the firmware to 1 or 1.5. Several teams are working on this

OK. Go to the icon that looks like a suitcase on the browser screen and go down to system settings menu, go down to system information and take a look. The chances are you have firmware 1.52 or above. You will be able to upgrade to firmware 2.00 using the umd disc that came with the PSP.
Once you are upgraded go and find MPHDowngrader (try google or have a look HERE!!! ). You will also need to find the PSP Firmware 1.5 dump, again google will assist. Simply follow the instructions that come with MPHDowngrader to downgrade to firmware 1.50. This firmware will allow you to run homebrew applications as well as backups of UMDs THAT YOU ALREADY OWN from your mem card. This proceedure is carried out at your own risk.

i dont think this umd sampler that came with it has the upgrade firmware. i just noticed that its vol.1 wich is probably the first sampler that came with the psp when it first launches, so chanes are it wont have the firmware upgrade.
