It can only be done on a 1.0-1.5 version box. And only 1.0 and 1.1 can have a switch to still be able to use xbox live.

You also need a memory card and the original disk of the game "007: Agent under fire", "splinter cell", or "MechAssault". This is if you mean a tsop flash. If you mean a softmod, I would not recommend it.

Yeh dude dont softmod an xbox its not worth it at all specially if it goes wrong! If your a noob with a soldering iron either send it to a installer or go online and find yourself a solderfree chip. I reccomend either spiderchip or xbit for this job.

If you have a 1.6 or a 1.6b please send it to an installer because you will have to solder!

Well....I have done both and I still love the chips, but softmodding is very simple and I think SAFER than chipping, if you have no idea how to solder and what not. But like Seany and Qual said, you can screw it up and then YOU HAVE TO chip the box. You can softmod any box as long as you have the right installer, IE: LTools, UDE, etc...You need UDE2 if you are going to do a 1.6.

There are both sides to the arguement, as far as live goes....I use XBConnect and I do not have a live account anyways.....You can find a lot of info on softmodding at various sites, but do your research here and other places on installing the chips.....It is a learning experience!!!! haha....

Support the chips and uhhh...Rock the Vote.....or something like that

Dude...about 6 months ago I would have agreed with you......Let me rephrase......I have done over 30 now with the softmod and have never messed one up yet...Of course I use the UDE auto installer and my dog could do it....haha....I still do both. I can not think of one reason why the NORMAL user would want anything buy.....Except for the LIVE thing and I am not even sure about that, because of all the things that MS has to detect the chips, HD modifications, etc.....Again....I am just saying let the guy decide on his own. I was never good at the solder thing, but once I learned how to do it, then I was fine....I started installing a lot of the Xenium Solderles chips, because I love the OS it has on the chip. SOme people are just skeptical about opening up their box and voiding the warranty VISUALLY....Any modding, whether it is soft or not voids the warranty. I learned how softmod on my Xenium box, and I DID screw it up 5 or 6 times when I was trying to copy the hacked text files manually and rename everythng, it was a nightmare....But once I got the autoinstaller, I was golden.......I do just as many softmods as I do chips....I just leave it up to the owner....

Later all

You can, but you have to undo everything. I don't like softmods because they don't have as much control as Bios, setup wise.

Yeah....Like I said....I prefer chips on my boxes, but I do have two xboxes in my Truck with screens and I hooked them both up system link and my kids can play each other, those boxes have softmods, so I do not have to worry about bumping around or anything like that......My soldering was never that good :-)

And as far as Live goes.....Most of the people that have boxes around here do not even have dsl or cable......so it would not matter anyway.

What is the benefit of messing with the bios? What can you change and manipulate? I have always wanted to change the xbox logo and things like that, and I heard that you can with different bioses.....

you can also have it boot to different dashboards, without renaming them. That is the main thing for me. I can have the bios boot from E and whatnot, without eving touching C. I can leave C exactly how it should be.

I have both 1 soft one chip they both work fine the softmod has a few little bugs but nothing that would persuade me to purchase a chip ever again.
after I did the softmod I thought what a waste of $$$ on a purchase of a chip.

me and quall999 will always tell you to get a chip. Look at it in my perspective

Chip nice cheap mod duox alladin live 10-15 pounds depends around $14 on some us sites.

007 Halo or splinter cell costs like £20
Memory card £10

all of it adds up a solderless chip £$25-30 features normal xbox bios for live and for backup. What i think is that yeah if your gonna do 100 xboxs and no one ever is going to touch live go ahead but there are risks! If not go chip it it will be worth it in the long run and always upgradable as it only uses the lpc bus and d0 point which omg uve already soldered 2. At an expanding market for home entertainment companys are tying to reduce costs and stop piracy. So they will find out some time. Like quall said you can only use evox unless u edit the bios. This is prob jiberish but i still think its better to get a chip. i spent 10 pounds on my first xbox install that was it i was given free solder and wire and some tips from spedmetal how to strip the wires and scrape the laquer off. I had a little previous experience with a soldering iron back in the day at school. This was with a massive soldering nib! and i took my time it took me 50 min to do my first xbox install as it was a tricky v1.0 i couldnt get the board out. i finally did it tho and it was an experience to see it actually work first time, with a little practice you will be fine.
