To The Experienced People

I have received my V7 ps2 today, pre-installed with messiah 2
It works fine, but i don't have any dvd backups so I can't test that

with the cd backups, I've tried Ridge racer 5 & half life and it
is fairly noisy I have used good media, also i can hear the laser
rechecking the cd like mad

I have burned them with clone cd, with verbataim at 1x or 2x
I can't set any of the seting in clone cd fo r some reson

and i have also used cdrwin with memorex at 8x, but still noisy

so for anyone who has a v7 ps2 withe messiah 2 and does
not get noisy sounds, could you please tell me what media speed
to burn and software etc

Thanx

When we install on a v7, we get 1 in 4 or 5 that has this problem, usually with DVD-R. Your installer should check and set the laser azimuth (see the FAQ in www.ps2newz.net for instructions).

Sony set some v7s badly in my opinion so that originals read but not backups. Your burning practice is perfect.

By the way, when you go to DVD-R, we find that those v7s are then ONLY happy with Traxdata DVD-R.

Your thread is addressed to the Experienced people. One of them (me) has said your burning speed is fine. (see my post CD-R Burning Speed in the factoids).

He (me) has also advised you that 1 in 4 or 5 of the v7s has a backup reading problem and I've suggested the laser azimuth adjustment.

Now I know you want to avoid troubling your installer, but he should have tested that everything works. Laser azimuth adjustment is an option available to him for getting the thing to work.

i have to put this to bed!!! I installed the chip for this guy and what he says is true about the ps2 cdr games being noisier than psx but that in my experience is the case with all ps2 cdr backups and originals and if he expects them to be as quiet as psx backups then dream on!!! In the last ten v7s i done I had only to recalibrate lazer once and that was for dvdr -sony had set it to 1.9 and i brought it down to 1.2 -perfect! This customers machine was set to 1.32 for dvd and 1.25 for cd and i tried out shadowman2 backup on Octron(cheap but very good disks from LIDL!)-played perfectly, shadowman2 backup on white label Verbatim Datalife Plus - played perfectly and Pro evolution Soccer on Datasafe Classic(Blue Dye) - played perfectly. I gather myself that the lazer seeking that he is talking about is just the normal lazer action with a ps2 cdr or cdrom , I don't know if it's down to the way the data is laid out or what but ps2 cdroms do spin up a lot faster than dvds and i have just this minute put in an original ps2 cdrom(fifa 2001) and it makes the exact same noise as backups so i would suggest to customer to go back and but an original ps2 cdrom game and see if it plays as quiet as a psx backup, but he does not need to go near lazer and nor do I!!!
happy xmas everyone!!
last not: all v7s i have done have worked perfectly with Verbatims, Traxdata, Fws(old and new type) and Datasafe Ritek 2* Dvdrs- I test all tehse in amchine after chipping to make sure machine will be as versatileas possible for customers.
