Confusion Reigns Supreme!
Hello All,
Being quite new to this forum I have noticed there seems to be alot of the same questions asked over and over and over again - which tells me either a) the answer are not very clear and/or b) those asking the questions are not checking for other posts which may provide answers. Regardless, there appears to be much confusion and conflicting responses to these very same questions, such as: CAN YOU MAKE BACKUPS OF ORIGINAL DC GAMES? Many anwer "No, of course not - you can only backup "backups"". Others [dogberto, for example], however, stress that you can indeed make backups of your own original DC games. However, the method for doing this has not been described! Having read Big Papas post - I am still not enlightened! Therefore, my questions are as follows: 1. Can you make backups of original DC games? 2. If so, "but arent DC games much larger than standard CDROM games? How EXACTLY can this be done!?" 3. What do I need to do this? [e.g. software, cables etc.] Thanks in advance for giving a clear answer to this very elusive issue! |

hi
you are a guy that i can relate to, because I have a problem copying original games but when you ask questions, yes, you do get extremely vague answers look at my DC2PC posting anyway, this is what i know to transfer games from your DC to your PC you need DC2PC cable, this is available from www.liksang.com and comes under dreamcast coder cable (£16). then you need a GD rom rippin' toolkit, available from www.dccopyworld.com inder DC Utilities or you can get dreamrip from http://xboox.virtualave.net/dl/dreamrip.zip a serial upload slave from http://www3.sympatico.ca/fulg/ a terminal emulator from http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/ttermp23.zip once you have ripped the files from the GD Rom, you need to unzip them with http://member.nifty.ne.jp/beambitious/distrib/eo150.exe (no other compressing software will do) this is in japanese but extremely straight forward to use when you are looking for instrucions on what to do with all this software, check the readme in the dreamrip directory As for copying backups its really just trial and error, but you will find that the newer the CdR the easier it will be, there is a post on theis forum that tells you what burner people use, with what software and what games they have done. I also need help with backing up, when you are extracting images from your GdROm the terminal emulator puts them some where and when i do a search on my PC for trackxx.iso.gz or trackxx.raw.gz I cannot find it, can somebody tell me how to set up the tera term so that i know where these files are going (theres nothing more annoying than waiting 18 hours for a game to go onto your machine then not being able to find the file) one more thing, using the DC2P calbe is slower than spending a week in solitary confinement but www.doubledutchdesigns.com used to do a pci card that increased the speed of the transfer but i a not sure if it is still available bet you all that is as clear as mud purepest |
