Question How would you rate the Ps2 as a DVD / CD player?

Hey just wondered what people thought about this.
Mine has a version 5 board with messiah installed and ive never noticed any skipping on dvd films which i heard was common on earlier machines.

Im thinking of just using the ps2 to play dvd films and cd audio through a surround receiver. I know the quality wont be as good as a proper dvd player but really do you think you notice much difference unless the dvd player is a high end unit.?
Same goes for cd audio i would have thought, as long as youve got a half decent sound system linked to it no?

Seems a good idea to use the ps2 for everything to get your moneys worth out of it, it wasnt exactally cheap itself at the start.

I think the ps2 is a so so dvd cd player. It has its downfalls because its trying to combat piracy and illegal backups of games so they set their lasers very poorly in some cases. Which is why you dont always get a perfectly running game, or a quite one for that matter.

I just use it for gaming myself. I have real standalone dvd players for my movies and real stereos for my music.

When you can get a dvd player for $50 now it just makes more sense to use that instead of wearing out your PS2.

Biggy got a point but havin said that, with a component RGB scart lead from ps2 to TV there isn't a hell of an amount of difference between a dvd movie played on a ps2 and one on a dvd player. The only real difference is a bit of a lack of features.

Regards
