video going bad
UGH! This is so annoying. The problem started about a month ago. Whenever I view anything through the xbox, I get this vertical dimmed white line that scrolls across the screen every 6 seconds. This occurs when we are streaming divx from our computers OR when playing a dvd game. We've checked the cords so we know that they are okay. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix? Or is it time to buy a new xbox?
BTW - It's a version 1.0 with a matrix solderless mod chip. |

Hmm... I have seen numerous boxes with this problem, maybe it's a trait with older boxes???

It usually isn;t caused by the xbox myself. The same thing happens on some TV stations. The problem you might ask? Well, usually another electronical device. My PC causes mine, it is even in another room completely, and the case is on completely. If I turn it off, then it goes away.
Turn off all local electronic devices that are not needed. Then play a movie off your xbox's HDD. If the white line goes away, then you can easy find out which device was the cause. If it is something else, then I dunno wha tit could be.

Thanks for all the replies! It seems as though Quall999 has solved the great mystery! When the line first appeared, we had just gotten a new receiver and a new digital cable box. Being certain after reading these replies that it was one them, we unplugged them but the line was still there.
Then two nights ago when Hurricane Jeanne was rolling into town, we had to unplug all of our electronic components. When we just plugged the xbox back in.. the line wasn't there. One by one we tried plugging in devices.. no line! Then Tivo Seems as though Tivo is the culprit! Tonight I'm going to try to re-route the Tivo power to the back of the house to see if it might cure the line. Weird thing is that the line isn't there for any of the other devices.. just the xbox when Tivo is on. Very odd! Thanks again for your help! panch |
