Non refundable activation slots

So, some of the newer EA games have limited activation slots that are not refundable even if you uninstall the game from your machine. Red Alert 3, Mercenaries 2 World in Flames for example.

This is a diff trend from say Bioshock, whose publisher/dev finally caved in and created a install slot refund app.

So in effect, this is the same as me buying a car, then I got told that in the car's lifetime there can be a maximum of five drivers, if the 6th pair of hands drove the car it would kill itself and fit for the wrecking yard.

Isn't the purpose of CP/DRM is to ensure only one person using the product at a given time, and not this kind of rubbish?

Not trying to change the rules or whatnot, just a thought.
Sorry, please move this to General Gaming if it should be there.
