I agree with the even stricter policy! Damn (would-be-)pirates should be punished much more for their hideous crimes than plain murderers for only killing a human being! Life is worth much less than intellectual property (read: rather the comfort of bosses in publisher companies)!

Actually, I think everyone having a computer should be paying a special tax as he or she can POSSIBLY use it for piracy. Also, while I'm at it, a tax for car drivers should also be introduced, to financially help (the families of) people they MAY run over.

(Seriously, it's a pity that the USA government fucks things up in both directions: inland and outland. Now some citizens of the USA have less and less fun living in their own country; however, they can't really move to a foreign country either because they might not be welcome there either. And the nicest part is they can thank their own government for BOTH! Time to stand up from your comfy chair and swap your government, right? )

Actually we in Australia already have something like that! Its part of our registration fees and it covers any persons injuries sustained due to a car accident.
The government had to implement it into our rego fees, many years ago, to counter for all those who drive their cars without having proper insurance.

EDIT: hehehe, just noticed the "to financially help (the families of)" part of your post Joe.

(Yeah, almost got run over last Thursday by a car while biking home and, after the small crash side by side, left there by the driver - guess, who was the one missing the compulsory yield at the junction -; that's why I added that...)

Yeah we have a fucked up president. This is true. But as a whole goverment we are not anymore fucked up than anyone else. I also agree about us not being welcome in other countrys. Funny, these same people are quick to come to ours and grab the free handouts our goverment provides and really, thats the problem. They come here, get our free education, free medical plus numerous other benefits then trun around and take the education we gave them and use it to fly planes into buildings or build bombs to blow up innocent people. It doesnt matter that these people they kill have nothing to do with goverment at all and i'm not just talking about in the US. It may be Europe, Africa or anywhere in the world. You know i guess we really do fuck up the world, maybe we should treat everyone in the world the same negative way we are treated and talked about. Then they could blame us for their economy collapsing and start a war that way. Anyway like it or not its got to get tougher here. Software, wiretaps, who knows whats next. One things for sure. Everybody better get used to it because privacy will soon be a thing of the past for us all .

(We might want to read William Gibson's Neuromancer trilogy a few times in order to learn a few tricks for the future governed by monopolies...)

LOL, Yeah, Back in the 80's Neuromancer and the sprawl trilogy was just another series of Sci-fi books. Now alot of it doesnt seem to far fetched does it .

Did you know the movie "Johnny Mnemonic" with Keanu Reeves is also based on a short story of the same name by William Ford Gibson.

Yeah, they blew up the original Johnny Mnemonic story (some 20 pages?) like a balloon... but the result is unexpectedly good! (Hmmm, IMDB rating is 4.6; perhaps, most people don't like it that much, after all... well...)

I don't see how this can be agreed with. Yes, it does penalize pirates, but would pretty much make backing up anything you own illegal.

It modifies the DMCA amongst other things. Instead of going for the people, it favors the large corporations.

As for the car thing mentioned above….we do have to pay. It is called auto insurance. It is illegal to drive without it.
