modchip, softmod, but what about my idea
2 years ago i had an ingenius idea which was to get an original.
lets say pikmin gc disc. (original) now my idea starts with putting this down on a precision cut machine and cut a ring in from the centre leaving the centre with barcode intact. then from a burnt dvd-r (mini 1.5gb) with lets say mario sunshine (backup) precision cut that so that you can snap it into your original pikmin disc so your left with original pikmin barcode to trick system into thinking its original and loading the burnt data. what are your thoughts? anyone care to put this to the test and get back with results. cheers Aussiebloke |

LOL. Lemme get my precision cutting machine out of my closet and test it for you.
As a matter of fact why not everyone pull out their precision cutting machines out and try. Tyler!

mate if i said everyone get a hand saw out or a electric jigsaw it makes this concept useless as the point im trying to make is that the burnt centre ring needs to snap into place "perfectly" wthout gaps, thus like the disc has never been cut.
precision just means find a means to make it pricision. i.e a disc holder with drill bit that always lands perfectly in centre ot disc to make perfect cut. get it now. so close ya cupboard and use ya brain. |

It wont work guy. Use your brain. Honestly, it wouldnt have suprised me much if you would have suggested duct tape to hold it together either.

and even if someone did have access to a pricision cutter and this concept turned out to work.
then i dont know about you, but i sure as hell would pay a precision cutter to cut alot of my mini dvd-r discs out so i dont need to buy some lame modchip "viper" that still needs loaders, network, pso, etc to me thats not a modchip, as other consoles modchips allow direct booting. non of this un-necesary extra tools b'sh+. |

well if this forum is full of talent (excluding yourself), why point to another forum when if ya got loads of explored ideas/discussion on modchip for gamecube then you should have no trouble finding a thread in these forums, what do you say?
hows about that link mate before you go and tell me it dont work. dont know where your brain is. but when i say snap a disc into a disc. its bloody tight. not flimsy and fall out while spinning. |

Before calling your idea "ingenius" why not point to me a forum that has tried it out with success? lol

hmmmm because no one else has mentioned my concept in the 2-3 years ive been reading about gamecube on 20 or so forums.
it only hit me the other day as i was playing mario about idea i had about the barcode on the disc and perhaps a lock in centre disc with burnt data that i decided to jump on your lovely forum and post. thought it cant do no harm. if someone wants to test it by all means go ahead. if it works. then hurray to the scene i suppose. their prayers have been answered. |

hey would you have laughed when the psx got released and people starting throwing ideas around about loading a spring in under the lid to trick the system into thinking the lid is still down??
as funny as that sounds "a spring used on a console. the weirdest of ideas are usually the ones people think of out of the blue. you can LMAO all ya want. ive seen this in so many forums. i.e symbian mobiles for example. someone pitched an idea about he'll program a snes emulator running on symbian phones and everyone called him a lying sack off sh!+ that a snes emu can never run on a phone. low and behold a few weeks later a SNES emulator was released and works on alot of Series60 and UI phones. slow, but works. so why would you laugh at something that might fill gap in the gc scene if this idea of mine has not been explored before. hmmmmmmm |

No thats actually ingenius. Reasons why aussiebloke's idea wont work: 1. To get the 2 discs to fit into each other would require quite a tight fit as stated by aussiebloke. This will result in disc warpage and possible damage to your laser. 2. Now anyone with any real common sense would say put interlocking teeth on the discs so they act as cogs. But this may result in damage to data on the burned disc. 3. Lastly, who the hell wants to damage an original disc just to get a backup to work? Tyler!
