I used to wake up soon but gave error at installation time (it was asking the original disc), changed the order of some steps and it worked really well. I like this:

Need for Speed SHIFT (DVD9 to 1xDVD5 Multi 10 - All Languages) FREEARC+MSI Custom Actions

'temp\Need for Speed(TM) SHIFT'

DVD size 3,41 GB gb

The end result of the DVD was even smaller

Sorry for the English decadent, I used the Google translator.

I don't see, how writing the steps in not exactly the same order, is changing the conversion itself? As I see it it didn't! Your compressing the same files, with the same compression method, followed by using the same files.
The steps or just marking what to do, for the conversion to work, and, witch thing to do one after the other it's just logical, don't You think, or do You disagree?

Instead of following the sequence 3 - 4 - 5 used 4 - 5 - 3.

peterf1999, DVD9 to 1xDVD5 worked perfectly! Installation and normal running play. Even with patch 1.2 and translation into Portuguese. Thank you!

Thanks!

Sorry for my bad English.

I'll start by apologizing for necro'ing this topic and then go on to thank peterf1999 for this guide!

I was wondering if there was a way to get the 1.02 patch integrated with the setup (unfortunately "slipstream" appears to be a term used in racing as well, making the search for this even harder).
I installed the game and patched it, compressed the Tracks & Vehicles folders (that covers half of the new stuff in the patch), but I'm at a loss as to how to add the other patched files into (what I'd presume would be) the Group#.cabs.

Since I haven't been able to find a topic on the matter, I'm guessing it's too much of a hassle and it's easier to just patch manually after installation.

Anyways, thanks again!
