Hi m8 if I can be of any help, use or buy a LG8320B!
It's very fast has the best under burn technology I've ever seen. You can even press Crtl+Alt+Del and Esc from it and the copy will be fine too. I make wonderful clones of my CD collections with it Audio/Data/Games, etc. The software I use is CloneCD + ClonyXXL It’s cheap too. EE |

---- I second the motion for Plextor. Never had a single problem day one. Using 2 8x Scsi External plextor's..Can't be better. compatible with practically any software you throw at it..Never have to worry about buffer under run like most burners. Also like Backitup mentioned find that's compatible with Clone CD or CDrwin. These 2 are the best duplicating programs for PS. |

When you make back-ups of psx games can you still play them in the psx or can you only play them with a psx emulator on your computer?

I was referring to the Member named "backitup"..
As for " When you make back-ups of psx games can you still play them in the psx or can you only play them with a psx emulator on your computer? Not sure what you mean but of course you can play backups on your PSX given that you've got modchip of sometype and YES you can play the backups on the PSX emulator for the PC..Backup disc or the Original works fine..Although I'm not really fond of Emulators except for the Old School Arcade classics like Rastan,RoboCop and etc..These are the Classics.. Can't get enough of it..

My burner is the LG CED-8120B, 12x8x32. It doesn't have Buffer Underrun and can't burn CDRs any SLOWER than 4x, but it does have an 8MB cache and works great with every burning program I've tried (Nero 5.5, DiscJuggler 4, CDRWin, and CloneCD).
I've found that when it comes to my aging PSX, the brand/type of CDR media is just as important as the drive itself. Verbatim's DataLifePlus discs (dark blue) work beautifully with the 8120B, and they're the one brand that my chipped PSX consistently reads. |

From reading all the posts, then most people are mentioning well known brand names like Sony, Plextor, Yamaha or Pioneer.... and i would agree with them all.....
But know one has mentioned Hewlett Packard..... i have an older HP8100 plus and have never had an ounce of trouble within the 5 years i have owned it.... it writes to any media i chuck in it, even the cheap ones you get in the bulk packs...... Given that HP have the lowest returns rate in the industry then they have to be doing something right..... So in a nutshell, stick to a well known branded burner, like the ones that have been mentioned, and its always worth paying that little bit extra..... but steer well clear of Phillips units, they arnt much cop for PSX backups (i'll probably get slatted now from loads of Phillips owners), and in my opinion LG can be a bit fussy with the media you use but are till a good choice. Liteon seem to be a good choice as well as Ricoh if you are stuck to a budget. And as dust2dust mentioned, check its compatability first with CloneCD and even CDRWin.
