Max Payne 2

Ok. I got Max Payne 2 for Chrismas, an awesome game. Somehow, I lost cd 2 (play). I looked and looked nowhere to be found. Luckly I go a no cd patch and was able to play. Recently I had to re-format my hard drive, I thought nothing of it. I'd just have to put in the install disk and then no-cd patch it. Whopps. It says to enter a cd or locate someplace where data3.cab is located before I continue. Anything I can do?

Why on earth did you re-format your hd? There's such a thing as using a disk utility to optimize the hd at least once a week! Heck, windows even has an optimizer utility! When an hd is allowed to become severely fragmented, it comes to a screeching halt and the only option is naturally to reformat because the File Allocation Table is screwed. Learn about your machine instead of just turning it on and off!

I don't want to appear nasty, just making sure you're clear on what goes on INSIDE the pc case. A neighbor used to re-format every single time any little thing went wrong. He eventually got tired of doing that and started buying new hard drives because he figured THAT was easier and less time consuming than re-formatting. But you know, everything still had to be RE-INSTALLED!!!

hmm... lets see. Let's say there was so many things wrong that optimizing did nothing. Re-formating was my last resort. I didn't post this asking you to tell me what I should have done, or whatever. All i want to know is what i can do now !!

I'm with you.

I'm with you, evilpaintball1 . The flaming was unnecessary. I have been a computer user since 1986. 'Optomizing' can help, but not in most situations. Real 'gamers' (those who have around 100 unfinished games slammed onto a hard-drive at one time) run into problems that you can either troubleshoot for 2 days, or format and get it over with in 2 hours. We know how to backup critical information before format, and have a gameplan to get our system up and running quickly. Sorry to hear about your lost disc. I'm a bit compulsive and make back-ups of EVERYTHING i've got. Just in case. Good luck.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I did have 100s of games installed but it was worth the re-format. Plus I had some really nasty spyware/virus, everything was slowed down so much. Hopefully I will find the disc, if there is no cure . I think I'm gonna start making back up copies too, right after I lost the play disc I make a backup of the Install lol.

I don't know what you want to hear/read?

- Do you want that someone give away his/her disc?
- Do you want that somehere here on this board direct you to a warez site for downloading the disc? NO!

The only solution is find your disc or buy another one !!!
