ZPAQ instead FreeArc?
Hi guys, I dont know anything about file compressor and its alghoritm, but I heard there are a compressor called ZPAQ that can compress better and faster than FreeArc. Obivusly ZPAQ always works in command line and so it can be integrated in installer script. For whoever make conversion, look this tool and comment

yeah. I tried out PAQ and it compresses better if Precomp and srep is involved but compression takes long.

You suggest to apply precomp+srep and then ZPAQ for a better compression? Or it means tath precomp and srep are integrated on ZPAQ? By the way, how long time compression take? I think 3-4 hours is accettable time for compression and 30 min is accettable for installation |

Precomp+Srep+PAQ9 and lzma must not be involved in the compression process.
by the way I used PAQ which is used in KGB Compressor. so it's basically Precomp+Srep+KGB/PAQ It took a long time. If it will introduced then conversions will be called overnight-conversions because it took a long time so it will be best if you do the conversion while you are asleep. |

For compression, no problem : I create a .bat file and paste the command line of ZPAQ. The problem is in installer : in the conversion I downloaded from here there a setup, I don't know what are inside this setup, or in other words I know inside setup there are the installation GUI and the instruction of decompression, but I don't know how to insert the decompression instruction of ZPAQ |

It's also easy to work with. At least that's how I see it. I have tried using KGB compressor just for lols and to compare the differences in Compress/Decompress times and, from my personal experience, it's not worth the time nor he nerves. I'd rather use FreeArc and Compress my game to fit 3-4 DVDs which will be packed in 30 minutes and installed in 10 minutes rather than waiting over night so that I would have 1DVD that would need 1 hour to unpack. |

But in the past people maked conversor with lzma+precomp+srep with an optimal compression/time ratio (for example max payne, rage, hitman absolution) that have a 3-4 hour for compression and 30 minutes to install, a good compromise I think, now I see only conversion with a gain of few gb and only LZMA compression, that have 30 minute for compress and 10 minutes to install. I think the more compression is better for storage in a low number of support, because the compression process is long but is once time process. |
