Jacked up my PS2
A friend and I tried to mod my V4(no gap) PS2 with a magic V chip. We soldered all of the points, (had a heck of a time with the one's on the underside) and put everything back together.
Low and behold, we turn it on, the dvd spins, but no video or audio. We open it up and make sure we have everything plugged in correctly and try again. Same problem. After a while of doing this I give up and just take the chip out, turn the PS2 on, with my fingers crossed, and the same problem, this time with no chip. I'm guessing we jacked it up some how. My friend claimed to be really good with a soldering iron, but now I'm second guessing that. Any one have an idea what the possible issues could be? Does this sound familiar?

You got a diagram for a V4? For Magic V on china-magic.com, I can only find from V5 upwards...
EDIT: Check the BIOS chip for solder bridges across the legs

Yup, same thing happened with my V4 Gap and messiah chip.. Brother gave it a shot and he was pretty good with an iron but wasn't used to such tiny vias.. and we didn't know about the scrape technique.. anyway we got it powered back on and got a game going (splinter cell) <- still brings back painful memories.. anyway it booted and we got to the intro and it froze.. from there on in we got disc read errors and then non function period.. well until i go ahold of a hammer.. that made things better.

ok try takeing out the chip and clean up all the solder you put on the board then try the system does it boot if you still get the black you could have burned one of the points on the back of the board you soldered to or broke a track around that area what wattage iron did you use as the 20w+ are too hot and will damage the ps2 hope this helps

Yes, we were using a 15watt iron. I think he may have bridged two of the "legs" on the chip. We are going to try to clean up as much solder as we can, then clean the chip up, and see if that makes a difference. I know he used a desoldering braid to clean up some of the drips, but I rememeber him saying something about the chip appearing to have solder touching each other.
We got the diagram from chipzone for the V4 no gap. I appreciate everyone's input!
