Ps2 boots to the Brower/Sys Config menu. help please
hey guys,
I was dumb, that's all I can say. I don't need you to restate that to me that this was a bad decision. I just am asking for help, and not insults. The other day I started to install my NEO2.2 but after I did two wires (#8-black, #2-orange) I decided I could not finish with the current iron tip I was using as it was too large for the other points. I decided it would have to wait for another day. so I took the black wire and the orange wire off and the board again and closed up my PS2. I thought that this would be fine, and a better alternative to leaving my PS2 sitting open until I had the chance to get a new tip. But today I went to play my PS2 (first time since i tried installation) with my Tony Hawk3 (legit) in the ps2 and it just went to the "Browser / System configuration" screen. I kept trying reboots and such with no luck.. it always goes straight to that menu. What do I do? Have I destroyed my PS2? or is there something I can do to fix this??? Thanks for any help I receive, -Andrew [Edit] I have tried the following types of CDs and still no luck: PSX original, PS2 original, PS2 copy.. NONE of the CDs gave me anything.. no "piracy detected" or otehr errors.. they all went to the menu.. |

I think I'm in the same boat with you. I started an install and unsoldered what i started after realizing my tip was too big, or just that i'm not skilled enough. Hehe, i don't get that far even, my just turns on and ......nothing. This really sucks lol. That'll teach me i guess

first make sure u havent bridged anything on the ps2
then remove wires from neo2 chip(if prefitted wires make sure u record which wire goes were) ensure end wires which u remove r insulated from touching anything now your ps2 should boot if chip part installed it gets activated but cant function as wires r missing so ps2 doesnt boot certain wires can b left off and neo2 still has most its functions (tray doesnt open for ea swap i think is pin2 (not sure) but pin 8 i think must b connectected sorry i not neo pin expecheck no bridge if no bridges remove wires from neo2 as i said let some one refit it later if no bridges the ps2 will boot again my advice bin neo2 before it destroys your laser u lucky u not used it yet buy a messiah not cheap but worth every pound it costs mail me if u want 1

remove the chip carefully, then check the points and area around them with a magnifying glass for solder drops and bridges.
if you find nothing, check the cable to the cd drive.. make sure it's plugged in properly and not damaged. if that fails, open the top of the ps2 and remove the top case of the cd/dvd drive (4 very small screws, make sure you don't lose them). then turn on the ps with it open and watch if the laser lense flashes red on power up (do NOT look straight into it from above!) for a moment, and if it moves at all. if not, the laser unit might have gotten damaged.

Ok so I just tried testing the thing out. i DID see the last flash quickly so I guess that is a plus. Next I am going to open her up and check for solder. I have a desolder wick that came with my modchip but I don'r know how to use it. Care to explain to me?? thanks!! Also... what exactly is a "bridge" ??
Thanks again. -Hades [edit] i just did another test.. while my PS2 was still opened I put the disk in and the put that white magnet on top. i booted my PS2 again and i noticed that it never even started to spin the disk. it didnt even TRY.. it never moved once, but when i looked again the laser is working.. Any solution?? or am i totally fuct? Last edited by Hades; 07-04-2002 at 14:21. |

sounds like a good idea. as long as i understand correctly..
I go to the store, buy a PS2? Open the case, take out the new one, throw the old one in, return it to the store saying I have changed my mind?? is this correct? and is there any risk to it at all? -Hades |

Ok so I just can't buy it open it, swap ps2s, return it and tell em i did not enjoy the system and that i would rather buy a new xbox ?
I've seen it. Here's my interpretation of what you have said.. it's a bit messy so i may get something wrong.. if so, just tell me please. 1. use a knife to break the bottom of the box open 2.take the ps2 out. 3. remove the main board in the ps2 and shove it in mine. 4. i dont understand this step, something to do with a hardryer and knife 5.put the ps2 back in the box. 6. glue the bottom shut 7.return to the store. I have a quick question. Could I not just switch the TOP case piece of the PS2s ?? Cause the serial number is on that piece so if I put the NEW top piece on my OLD FAULTY ps2, and then put the OLD top piece on the NEW PS2. Then threw the FAULTY PS2 with REAL SERIAL in the box would that work? |

Ok so here's my plans.. point out any flaws.
1. Buy a PS2 at Zellers or Walmart (i'm in Canada with no Walmart in my city YET) 2. Bring it home and open it NORMALLY? 3. take PS2 out and take the WARNING sticker off and stick it on the back of my BUSTED ps2.. (or do i have to swap PARTs from the ps2s ??) 4. stick ps2 back in the box and close it up. 5. go back to the store and say it's a dud and wont boot up the games i bought.. 6. get a new ps2 fom them. 7. take it home and leave it packaged 8. take it back to the store a couple days later saying i chagned my mind?? Is it ok to say i changed my mind if I have not opened the package yet ?? Thanks, -Hades |
