How to change Product ID in Windows XP Pro?
Hello,
Under windows register (regedit), I found 5 entries that contains the windows product id field, these are: 1) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Registration] 2) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion] 3) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] 4) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Key-CJ27J3P2XV9J9JCPB4DVT] 5) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Key-G4XTBRDJMGP7G4WJTJK48] But the one that is under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\ cannot be change. I try using x-setup but it only change the first 3. Anyone know how to change this or is there any tools to do this? Thanks, |

IMHO, that isn't legal !
The only reason for doing this, is that you have not bought an original win disc, and with your stolen key, you are not able to update.....Am I wrong ?

Yep, I know exactly how to do it. But as Monty says "that isn't legal !". If you had a legitimate reason for changing your ID M$ would have told you how.

Yeah changing PID is mainly for when serials wont work.
Each company like DELL, Compaq, HP etc have their own PID for windows, and each PID determines how a CD-Key is designated. My guess is he has a CD-key from a built machine from one of those companies and his copy of XP isnt taking the serial. |

Or if not, can I just delete this 2 entry in windows registry?
4) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Key-CJ27J3P2XV9J9JCPB4DVT] 5) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\Key-G4XTBRDJMGP7G4WJTJK48] Cause when deleting the whole folder, it always says "error while deleting key" |
