Xenogears: no FMV sounds

Hello all
I've finally gotten my hands on Xenogears (USA version) and I was really eager to play it. I gave it an experimental tryout on my PSXeven emulator -> everything worked fine apart from the FMV sound being off by a second or so. However, since PSX emu's are about as bugfree as a hippy's veggie garden I thought nothing of it.

Now here comes the good part. I burned both the discs of the game and inserted them in my (borrowed and modded) PSX. But lo and behold, no FMV sounds! The Squaresoft logo gives no sounds, the intro movie doesn't gimme any sounds either. Disc 2 is the same deal: in-game music and sounds are a-okay, but the FMV sounds are non-existant which is quite annoying with a story-driven game like this.

Is there something I did wrong? The game came to me in .iso format which I wasn't able to open on my comp, and I burned the discs with Alcohol 120%, 4x speed (lowest available with my drives) and Nashuatec CD-R's (although I doubt it has anything to do with the discs -> the rest of my library is also done with Nashuatec but works okay).

Help from teh pro's would be much appreciated. No, I'll rephrase that, I'm begging, on my knees, for someone to help me.
