What version is your PS2? Are you getting the RSOD screen or does it take you to the browser after it tries to boot or what does it do exactly when you try and boot a PSX games. Two of the main things that pop to mind with this problem would be that maybe your laser is on the fritz and not reading CD-R media well, but still reads PS2 back-ups that are on DVD-R media. Or the scex wire has come loose, or the clk wire may have come loose. Did you do the install?

prospectively speaking, 1 of 3 things might be the prob.
1. developing a laser issue would be the first guess.
2. wire that Sped also mentioned.
3. doubtfull as this is the least likely, poor media or damaged/corrupt data on psx cd-r backups.

All of the above already mentioned by Sped but sounds like it is most likely the laser is about to go out. Gradually it may stop reading all together. Do you hear any unusual hummimg sounds coming from the laser as it attempts to read the psx backups or is it just a no go period?
