Hehe.........I've hit a brick wall again!........

Hi once again,

This is my latest project.......Delta Force Land Warrior

Objective : To create CD or DVD version of the game with the latest update AND cracked executable already patched into the installer.

Now, I have extrapulated the updated files, and attempted to make the first prototype, but after installing, the game would'nt run because all the filesizes/dates etc. were exactly the same as before the update!

The culprit : The dreaded Data1.cab (Installshield 5 version)

i5comp will not perform maintenance on the cabinet because it has to be 'combined into a single volume'

Winpack is (and always has been) about as much use as a chocolate fireguard these days!

An idea I was looking to do was to create a new installshield5 data1.cab file

Any ideas on how I can accomplish this feat??

Cheers

Andy

Hi Python007,

If I'm not mistaken, there are more CAB's, like data2.cab, data3.cab etc., CD-sized (?) volumes of a large archive. Changing one file would mean recompressing all files after it, including those in volumes with higher numbering. This is complicated and may not be implemented in CAB archivers.
A good idea might be extracting all files from all volumes and then recompessing them, either into multiple volumes or into a single volume. For the latter, you might have to hack the installer script (see "ORCA"; search for it on this forum or at the Micro$oft site). (No, I don't have this game; only speculating.) Good luck!

The killerwale will not help him InstallShield cabinet files are AFAIK incompatible to MS cabinet files. If he uses i5comp (really the old version 5?) correct it would work. If not: Install the game, fish all registry keys and create a new installation with another setup tool (e. g. InnoSetup). This is the way I prefer to overcome those problems.

Sorry, yeah, you're right, I forgot about the two different kinds of CAB's: M$ and InstallShield...
By the way, I do it similarly but I don't bother with creating an installation tool. I just change the registry entries so that they point to the current directory (single dot), test if the game runs (if not, hack it ) and then archive the whole thing with RAR.
