Dungeons and Dragons - Dragonshard

I've been trying to install this game from original CDs, but can't get it to install. Game crashes on liquid entertainment splash screen.
The readme said the latest version of directx 9.0c was needed, so installed that, to no avail.
I monitored my cpu performance in task manager while installing, didn't max out or even come close to it.
System requirements are all met apart from cpu its a 1.4GHZ instead of 1.5.
Any ideas anyone?
