Confirmed, the upload is broken, but why aren't you reporting this to the MegaGames staff (instead)?!

tried posting in the pc game fixes section of their forum, but the thread is not online yet (needs to be approved by a moderator first),and that aside, the forum looks quite dead.perhaps I should try sending a pm,or a direct mail.
I'm going through old backups right now,I'm pretty sure I had the file somewhere at some point, but it is looking hopeless so far. anyway,in case someone is willing to create a new nocd (I think the old one just skipped the movies,it did not allow playing them from the hdd),I have uploaded the unmodified executable here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yjd5x6 the error message: ![]() I believe there is no real cdcheck on the exe,its just that the path to the movies folder is hardcoded in the exe to point at the cd drive, changing it to ..\USA\ (the game files are in c:\games\RE\USA\,and I have copied the movies to the c:\games\RE\USA\MOVIE\ folder) or something like that would probably fix the issue. thanks. |

Well, first, there's a message "This game would be able to run only when Windows95." and, when it's hacked out, "Some of the data have been damaged. Please run Setup again." so uploading the main executable itself won't be enough. Read the PC Games forum FAQ on how to request cracks for old games.

sorry, guess things are not as simple as I have imagined them.after a bit of trial and error,I was able to put together a build that should work as specified in the FAQ. here (2x100MB,packed with 7zip):
http://www.sendspace.com/file/fulkfl http://www.sendspace.com/file/k2d4wk howto: 1) extract the RE folder from the archive to C:\games\ 2) set residentevil.exe to win95 compatibility (that will take care of the first error you mentioned). 3) run the reg file.it will create the required entries in the registry so you will not get that "data damaged" error (the entries are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL,to "uninstall" the build just delete the RESIDENT EVIL branch). first, this will probably only work for xp (thats what I'm using).second,I had to remove most of the videos to cut down the size as much as possible, but the first three are included (MOVIE folder),so you should be able to get into the first few game screens as long as the movie path in the exe is properly modified. thank you for your patience. ..found it,on the very last forgotten backup hdd: http://www.sendspace.com/file/vluo27
anyway,I was right-the fixed exe just skips movies,so a new one that would allow playing them from the hdd would still be better.. |

It seems to really need Windows 95(/98?) which I don't have installed anymore. At least, I'm unable to run it under Windows XP, with the "gimme Windows 95" message (see above) hacked out, as it just crashes back to the desktop without any error messages and I can't see the opening of any movie file attempted in ProcMon's log. Sorry, I don't have time for deeper analysis... (I had time for this only because the busy season at my work place has ended this Friday.)

it's weird because I remember I was able to install (alt-tab and click some error messages) and run the game using the windows 95 compatibility mode. Maybe it's because I used Xp. Or maybe my version was not the director's cut, who knows...

I have Windows 7x64 and game run. Like pokopo says, theres some FIX that work but one does not play the movies on the hdd, the other one (I am talking the fixes posted on GameCopyWorld) play movies but sound does not work. The .exe that comes on the CD play the movies but only whit the CD on; just like pokopo show on his post. I am trying to do it by my self but the only knowledge i have on the subject is make some batch; that is nothing compare whit cracking games. The tool i am trying to learn is W32Dasm but i guess it is too old for mine OS and processor cause some lines of the ResidentEvil.exe are extrange characters. Have google about it and everybody says that i should change the font; however, have change it many times and same lines still showing on that extrange characters. The far i can make it is that on the cracked ResidentEvi.exe the patch ":\Hoor\USA\etc" has been modified starting from "usa\etc". On that base i assume that on the original RE.exe (That have videos and sound) i should erase all ":\Hoor\" part and it will work! But no ... It does not work like i try. After deleting that part of the patch the .exe does not run, it says that it have crashed and wont start hahahahaha. So yes, i need help. How to delete that patch whitout breaking something? (Sorry for my bad english by the way) |

Since a few weeks ago, I have my old Windows 98 installation up and running again but this time in a VMware virtual machine. Please, put together a package of:
- a minimal installation of the game which loads far enough to see if it works properly (no errors/crashes, intros play, main menu loads, background music plays etc.); - already existing cracks: describe them, with their advantages, disadvantages and bugs; - describe what the final crack should be able to (e.g. show no intros but play background music from the hard disk to where it has to be/was copied manually). From multiple, bad cracks we might be able create a really good one. (Sorry if I'm not making much sense. I took an hour ago a sleeping pill which makes it hard for me to think poperly...)

Hi.
I still trying to get this game works without the CD, so i have uploaded it in a very minimal but functional demo, only 8Mb compressed with 7z: https://www.mediafire.com/?b5mdxcj8mk1ocy5 If someone is willing to help me, i will update the whole problem very shortly: Resident Evil 1 does not came out in spanish, so a mod that translated game strings was created, the problem is that the game main executable that came with the spanish mod seek for the movies into the CD-ROM drive, meaning that the game will not start unless the CD is in. There's a fix in GameCopyWorld called "Resident Evil v1.0 [US] No-CD/Fixed EXE" uploaded by "entaneer & DD". This crack makes the game run entirely without the CD, however, it deactivated some strings translated by the mod, meaning this that the game runs parts in english and parts in spanish. It is called "Cracked-WVideos-no_spanish.exe". There's other fixed-exe that does not run the movies so i am not interested in it, i only included it on the compressed demo in case it is necessary to compare something. It is called "Cracked_NVideos-no_spanish.exe". Both fixes can be found in GameCopyWorld, here is the game tag: http://m0004.gamecopyworld.com/games...ent_evil.shtml So, what i want is to make the "Original_SPA.exe" (included in the compressed Demo) run the WHOLE game without the CD, including movies, and must be that .exe because that one seek for all the translated strings. NOTE: In the compressed demo i uploaded there is a folder called "fixes", there you will found 3 files. 1. A reg key, it is important because the game seeks the installed patch to locate the files. If that can be eliminated and make the .exe seek for the files in the inmediate next folder instead, much better! 2. RE1 Config.exe changes the video card selected in the registry, in case the one in the included reg file is not compatible with your machine. 3. ddraw.dll is included because the game may not work properly in Win Vista/7. If that happens, the first solution is to set compatibility with Win95, and to be sure place the "ddraw.dll" with the game executable. |
