i'm no expert but iused nero and it worked almost every time. my best results are when i select the CD-copy icon on the left of nero. and for discJ when u start a new task select CD player to CD recordr instead of CD premastering to .......;-p you get the picture.
let me know if this worked for you jenny, peace

Jenny,

When using Diskjuggler (DJ), Open New under file. Select 'CD Copy =
from the same CD Recorder' ( right at the top of the list of CD =
options).
Make sure that your Destination (blank) CD is large enough to hold the =
CD that you are copying (might need 80 min CD).
Make sure that Source (game) CD is clean from debris, and insert in CD =
recorder.
Click START and wait until DJ asks for Blank CD. And remove game CD =
and insert Blank CD & click OK.

This is all DJ needs to copy a backup DC game. Follow these =
instructions and you will get a successful copy.

Antony

I'm a newbie too.
I tried to burn backups in Nero and BlindWrite, but had no luck. Tried various media brands, burnt various speeds on Plextor PX-W1610A - no one worked. My DC says 'Insert game disc'
The discs I wanted to copy have already been backups.
What's wrong???

Thanks,
IgorAge

Are you using a CD copy function? Or, are you trying to copy the files using standard authoring software?

Any CD writing software should write successful CDs as long as you use a copy function.

I suggest getting a copy of Diskjuggler v2 though, for its ease of use.

Guys I have tried nearly everything. Listen up and learn. Mode 1 disks are fully copyable and playable via the Utopia Boot disk. But self-booting cds are the key to success. Which I haven't yet found. I don't know whether it's my recorder or the programmes I use, but I have yet to record an audio session followed by a mode 2 data session. I've heard DiscJ does the job and it's the only one I haven't used. If anyone knows more please tell me at once. Thanx in advance.

Thanks for info, today I've tried DiscJuggler 3.00 and succesfully burnt Shenmue CD3.
I used TDK dView 700 media with blue recording layer and burnt it at 1x.
I have one question: Does the succesful backup really depends on the speed you burn it? I'm asking because I have Plextor 16x drive and burning at 1x takes soooo long. And what about the medias? I've heard that the best medias are the one's with blue recording layer - e.g. Verbatim, TDK etc. Is it true?
Thanks for answering my newbie questions...

Regards,

IgorAge

Burning speed should make no difference to whether or not your CD works in your DC. As long as the CDR you are burning to, and the software/system, are up to the job.

I think, maybe, you have not got the full version of Discjuggler 3, therefore it only allows 1x write.
Get the full version, or get a serial number for your software, try searching the Internet for it.

As for media types, use whatever you think works best, I do, I use unbranded 74min & Discplanet 80min CDR.

Hey. This is my first time posting on this board, cause i just looked at it for no real reason, just bored. But I couldn't sit idly by and not contribute with people having so many problems. To answer a few questions:

- It is ALWAYS better to write at slower speeds. DO not write over 4x otherwise you'll probably make a coaster. I have always been told to just burn at 1x, but I usually do at 2x and it works fine. Don't get all crazy burning at 12x or 16x or even 8x, cause its not good.

- For images ending in .cdi use Disc Juggler. I recommend using the newest version available at www.padus.com since everything after version 3.00.750-FTU is backwards compatible, and will work with all DJ 2.xx.xx images, which most backup dc iso's are.
- You can use nero as well, whatever works better, just make sure the image ends in either .nrg or.nri <---I think thats what the other one is...or .iso which can pretty much be used with any type of burning software.
- For Disc Juggler use these settings: under advanced choose Mode 1, set the block size to 2362 (set manually) and TOC set to CD-ROM. leave everything else alone, make sure you have your image loaded (if you can't do this then just give up) and then either test and write or just write. I usually just write, but do whatever you want. And MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR SPEED DOWN TO ABOUT 2x, 4x if you want to take a chance.

- Other than that I don't know what else to say, I didn't know there were people still haveing trouble w/backups....but I was a newbie once too...

Hey Skatavenger!!

I burn at 10x speed and have no problems. I have burnt 73 games (boot disc 2 selfboot converts), and have had not 1 disc fail.
If your burning session fails sometimes at 4 speed (is it really risky?) then you need to upgrade your system or find what is wrong with the PC you are using.
I'm not being patronizing, I just know that a CDR which is rated at 10x writing will burn succesfully in a CD burner with 10x burning speed capability. Though the software used should be set to make an image copy on Hard drive, so that the CDR isn't being copied directly from another CD drive, this may cause buffer underruns as dirt & scratches will cause bottlenecks in the CD writing process.

I have found that Discjuggler 2 works better than DJ3 for ripping burning DC games.
