Question regarding VMU and its cable

I see that some vmu such as SKillz have a serial port which allows data to be transferred through a cable...
but I wonder does this transaction require a program? (e.g. the PSX memory card uses Inetract's program) If it does require a program, what is it? Please let me know.

P.S. I would also like to know where can I get a cable for VMU...thanks a lot =)

Yes, it requires a special cable and software. The Game Shark "Massive Memory Card Plus" 8x memory comes with software and the cable. I got one a month ago at Electronics Boutique (walk-in at the mall, not the online store) for about $20-25.

What is that software called? I mean the one for the VMU, not PSX's Dex Drive...
Did you mean that you see the VMU with cable&software at EB?
Plz let me know, thanks!

The software isn't called anything. It's the companion program to the MASSIVE MEMORY CARD PLUS, and when it is installing, it says exactly what I highlighted above.

When you purchase the MASSIVE MEMORY CARD PLUS, it comes with software and cable. Yes, I bought it at a walk-in Brick & Mortar Electronics Boutique.

Now that's interesting...I didn't know that EB sells non-Sega Brand mega memory units...especially with software and cable included...
ciz I didn't see any in my local EBs...
