faulty ps2 seems ok but!!!!

hello all another 1 of those questions !!! got a faulty ps2 £30 said it has disc read errors . when i turn it on and insert disc it clicks a bit like the cogs slipping but when it loads its fine put dvd in and came straight on no problems so whats the crack ??? is laser fine but cogs need to be realigned or what ??????
