ps2 not reading dvd's but plays cdr's

I have a ps2 v4 with a neo4 chip. I am going to upgrade my chip to a messiah 2, but only recently have found that my ps2 isn't reading any of my original dvd games or movies. It does however play backup cdr games. I have replaced my laser about 18 months ago but have only been playing original dvd games and movies since. What is the problem????? Can anyone help????

Time to make some adjustments! Probably the parallax adjustment is off, the white gear at the top. This affects DVD’s before CD’s. Turn it clockwise till it clicks and then about another half turn, try a DVD and fine tune by turning clockwise till DVD skips, then counter clockwise till skips and set to the center of those two points. Also if your going to play DVD-r’s pull the laser out and set the DVD POT to about 750-800 ohms, CD pot to about 850. They are probably both around 1200 ohms from factory.
